First off, I want to say I've always been a Three Days Grace fan. Their first album was a great, modern rock record, and their second two albums were great as well, although they were more organized and melodic. This album, is nothing like their older albums. Their music style has completely changed with this CD, and I can't seem to find any original 3DG traits in this album. If you are a big Three Days Grace fan yourself, you will know what I'm talking about. It seems as though 3DG have gone pop/techno with this album, donning new, mainstream sounds with lots of computer generated music. It's just terrible. Three Days Grace had a good thing going; why they felt the need to change their music is beyond me. Some people think it was for the better, but true Three Days Grace fans should realize that this album is basically a failure. A lot of bands go bad after a while, usually from a similar cause, (*cough, linkin park, cough*), I just didn't think it would happen so soon to such a great band as 3DG. Or I should say, used to be. Listening to Adam Gontier's vocals from this album is really bad, too. Don't get me wrong, he's a great singer, but on this CD it sounds like Adam is trying to make his voice sound really girly and whiny, and he's using computer-generated sounds to help him do it. I tried liking this album, so I will try to give you a positive spin:
'Anonymous', was probably the best track on the album. It sounded more like the older Three Days Grace than any other song on here, and although it wasn't a great song, it was catchy. 'The High Road', was alright as well. The lyrics were cheesy and the tune was kind of un-original, but it's a popular song and I can see why, whether I like it or not. I also liked 'Give Me A Reason', not because it's a good song, (which it isn't), but because it sounds more raw and less digitally altered than the rest of the album. What you just read is the most praise you'll hear about Transit of Venus. Obviously, the drastic change in music is a tragedy to true 3DG fans, but the worst part is that the music all on itself is bad too. By this I mean even if it wasn't Three Days Grace who recorded this album, it would still be bad. The worst, cheesiest songs are: 'Broken Glass,' 'Operate,' 'Expectations', and 'Happiness'. The lyrics in these songs seem to be so un-creative and fake it's pathetic. I haven't much more to say about this rock record, I mean, techno/alt-rock record. Three Days Grace have dissapointed a lot of fans with their fourth album, but there are still a lot of people who listen to it and enjoy it. I don't think true 3DG fans of their older albums could enjoy anything such as this though. The reason I gave it 2 / 5 stars is because it could be worse. There are still some average/decent songs on here that although they are very cheesy, they are still popular and (somewhat) catchy. Who knows, maybe Three Days Grace will turn around with a fifth album in a couple of years that represents their true sound, after all, it's never too late. But me personally, I don't have such hope.
